While in everyday life you may take your footwear for granted, this is not a privilege you will have if you work in an industry where you are legally required to wear boots of a specific standard to limit the chance of being injured.

Protective footwear is mandatory on construction sites, for example, while similar heavy work also requires a close eye for detail when it comes to kitting out yourself and/or employees.

If you are in charge of the business, it is your responsibility to ensure personnel are wearing PPE that will do a sufficient job of stopping them from coming to harm. If you fail to do so and someone is injured as a result, the consequences can be significant.

People's feet are particularly vulnerable to workplace risks and serious damage could result in long-term mobility problems. Bones can be easily broken if something is dropped on them, so it might be that you need shoes that contain steel toecaps for added protection. Meanwhile, muscle and tendon damage is another problem to contend with, potentially limiting a person's movements more months.

In addition to objects being dropped, there may also be the risk of stepping on something that could puncture the foot from underneath. Treading on a nail is a common example of when this might occur and it's feasible that this could happen in your working environment, then midsole protection, which usually takes the form of a steel plate, could be a feature that you should be looking for in your footwear.

What sort of protective footwear is there?

At Hivis.net, we offer a wide range of foot PPE to ensure that most, if not all, industries are catered for.

However, you can also select appropriate shoes or boots based on a number of protective qualities they may possess, including whether or not they are insulated against the cold, heat resistant, oil resistant or anti-static.

We stock a range of trusted brands, which are well-known for being robust and reliable - the exact qualities you need when you are relying on them to protect yourself or your employees. Dickies, Rockfall, Tomcat and Pro Man are among some of the names we offer.
