Man Hit By Car Walking On Unlit Road In Dark Clothes
Now that autumn has well and truly set in and winter is firmly on the way, it's important that you take extra care when walking around your local area after dark. The nights are drawing in so even if it's early in the evening, you'd be wise to wear high visibility shirts and similar garments when walking around and about.
Sadly, a man has just died after he was hit by a car in Fishtoft while walking down an unlit road in dark clothes. According to Spalding Today, Paul Whiting, 51, was killed after being hit by a Renault Clio, being driven by student teacher James Hutchinson.
Speaking at Boston Coroner's Court,
Mr Hutchinson explained that he had been driving down the road when he saw the lights of a car approaching, so he moved his vehicle slightly to the left so there was enough space for both of them.
"All of a sudden I saw colour on my left. I didn't know what it was. I tried to swerve but it was too late," he was quoted by the news source as saying.
Paramedics declared Mr Whiting dead at the scene. His clothes were described as being dark or black and he hadn't been wearing high vis clothing.
It's vital that you make sure you can be seen if you are going to be walking after dark, especially if you have young children. You need to impress upon them the importance of road safety and what their roles as pedestrians are. If you can't wear
high vis clothes, make sure that what you do have on is as bright as possible so that drivers have a better chance of seeing you.
