Back To School - Are Your Kids Protected?

Term has finally begun again and while that may bring a bit of welcome relief to busy parents, it's vital that they know their youngsters are properly protected on the school run and beyond. It would perhaps be wise to invest in kids hivis clothing so that you know they can easily be seen by drivers as they make their way to the classroom and back again.

It's important to remember that there will be a lot more cars on the roads at this time of year than over the summer, so prepping your little ones on how to make their way around their local area safely will always be a good idea. Make sure you remind them again and again just how easy it is to be distracted when out and about, whether that's because they're with friends, on their phone or because they have headphones in. One small little misstep on the road at the wrongtime could be disastrous, so focusing on road safety at this time of year is advisable.

Younger children could certainly benefit from wearing high visibility jackets and bags - especially if they've just started walking on their own to school. Of course, you may struggle to convince older children that such equipment is a necessity but get them to wear it before leaving the house as well if you can.

In 2014, sustainable transport group Sustrans found that road safety is actually a far bigger concern for parents than stranger danger, with 41 per cent saying that their child has had a near-miss traffic accident either on the way to or coming back from school. Given facts like this, you can never really do too much to keep your kids safe on the school run... so have a chat with them about road safety - and make sure they wear reflective clothing every day!
